MATTE PAINTER/3D GENERALIST
THE ESCAPE
This shot was one of my final demo reel projects while studying at Gnomon. It is inspired by some of the establishing shots of Raiders of the Lost Arc and Avatar. The background matte painting is created in photoshop, the cliff faces were modeled in Houdini using a cliff generator I made, I then painted over the top of those renders inside photoshop. The matte painting is then projected inside nuke and comped behind the 3d airplane and cliff face that I modeled inside maya with Vray.

THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS
This was the last project I created while at Gnomon and I ended up winning the schools grand prize for best of term with it. I modeled the environment using Maya, speed tree and Zbrush, and textured using substance painter. I rendered the scene using both Redshift and Vray, I did this because Vray was giving me the better result overall but the fog was increasing my render times exponentials so I rendered the fog using redshift and then combined the passes in Nuke.

FORGOTTEN LANDS
This was another student project, I wanted to create a matchmove shot but I was having alot of trouble getting a perfect camera solve so I ended up recreating the shot by splitting it out and reprojecting the footage in nuke. I modeled the tower and walls using Maya, Marvelous Designer and Zbrush, It was textured in substance painter and rendered in Vray. I then did the sky replacement and matte painting cg paint over in photoshop. It was then comped in Nuke to bring the whole shot together.

BABA YAGAS HOUSE
This project I was tasked with created the Baba Yaga's house from a Slavic folk tale. I modeled the house in Maya, textured in Mari and rendered in Vray. For the forest and swamp I used Megascans assets and trees made in Speed Tree, I then scattered these assets using Mash in Maya. The final render was comped in Nuke where I added the smoke, and fire elements.

NOWHERE
This was one of my first big projection matte paintings. I built the initial scene in Maya, Gaea and Vray for rendering. I then took that render into Photoshop for matte painting. This was then projecting back onto the same geometry from Maya in Nuke. The foreground element was entirely created in photoshop and Nuke and the midground destroyed buildings were rendered in maya with Vray and then also projected in Nuke. All of these layers were then comped together to achieve the final shot.
